Martinborough is  a sub-region of Wairarapa, about an hour’s drive north of Wellington.  The area is characterised by small towns dotted among rolling fields of sheep, olives and grapes – all set against a panoramic mountain backdrop.


This region’s vineyards tend to be planted on high alluvial terraces in deep stony and free draining soils.  The area has low rainfall, high sunshine hours and cool nights, resulting in the long ripening season needed to create distinctive wines. While small in terms of New Zealand's total wine production, Martinborough's wineries have big international reputations for the quality of their pinot noir.


Edward and Marjory were drawn to the area for its proximity to their Wellington home, as well as for its natural beauty and, of course, for its ideal growing conditions for their beloved Pinot Noir.
